THE twelve members of North Berwick Community Council (NBCC) have been elected, after an election was held.

Lauren Cowie, project manager at the North Berwick Youth Project, received the highest number of votes out of the 19 candidates, with 1,291.

She is joined as a new NBCC member by Lesley Kay, who is also involved with the youth project; Sue Northrop, who is behind Demential Friendly East Lothian; and Eric Wales, one of the Fringe by the Sea organisers.

The other two new members of the community council are Olwyn Owen and Claire Mackenzie, who join five returning members.

Bill Macnair, who served as vice-chairman, is re-elected, along with Kathryn Smith (the former secretary), Ian Watson, Hilary Smith and Gordon Moodie.

Former members who were unsuccessful in the poll were ex-treasurer Jake Scott, Malcolm Baker, and Peter Hamilton.

They depart along with chairman David Kellock, Michael Ellis and long-serving members Sheila Sinclair and Elma Danks, who all decided not to stand for re-election.
