AN UP-AND-COMING pop-rock band has taken to the stage at two massive concerts.

Altered Sky, featuring Ana Nowosielska and Amy Blair, both from Haddington, took to the stage last month at Gig at the Grandstand during the Riding of the Marches festival in Musselburgh.

Then, this month, they were involved at the Paul Lawrie Match Play tournament, contested at Archerfield Links, near Dirleton.

Ana, of Alderston Place, said it was “great to be involved with the music in and around our hometown”.

She added: “The show in Musselburgh was great.

“The crowd was fantastic and it was so crazy to play in such a unique venue [Musselburgh Racecourse]!

“Our families were so proud of us and they want to take us to Luca’s [ice cream parlour] to celebrate.

“Touring is the best thing. We stay out on the road and meet new people and learn new things every time.

“We are hitting the road at the end of August and will have a Glasgow show on October 15 at The Garage main stage.”

Lead singer Ana and Amy, drums and backing vocals, of Haddington’s Long Cram, did not meet until a night out at the Mercat Hotel and then became best friends.

Ana moved to Haddington when she was 14 and attended George Heriot’s School, Edinburgh. She formed the band with Amy, who went to Knox Academy, in 2010.

They were joined by Richard Passe and Ryan Zdrojewski, on guitar, along with bassist Ross Archibald, and released their first album in November last year.

Ana added: “We wanted to release an album from day one because we believed in the songs that we had and we wanted to be taken seriously.

“It was self-funded and the best work we have written.

“We are already writing album two and plan to push it to the limit.”

The 25-year-old said both her mum and dad were creative people who had encouraged that side of her.

She said: “My mum was an actress and involved in theatre all over East Lothian.

“She passed away at the beginning of 2015 and was one of our biggest supporters.

“My dad is a director for Theatre Alba and regularly puts on plays in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“He is currently doing The Shepherd Beguiled at Duddingston Kirk this summer.

“My parents definitely encouraged my creative side and bought me a piano when I was 10.”
