A REMARKABLE fundraiser who ran the length of the Americas has completed his latest lengthy running challenge.

Jamie Ramsay laced up his running shoes to run the length of the Outer Hebrides and Skye in aid of Calm (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

The 36-year-old, who grew up in Whittingehame, posted a video online, detailing his latest adventure.

Lying down in his tent, he said: “It is quite blowy outside with intermittent rain, which is interesting.

“The end of my tent is where my rucksack is; got my Therm-a-Rest here and my sleeping bag and it is still super late, it is 8pm. I am just chilling out.

“I’m itchy, I’m smelly, I ran 40km in the top I’m wearing and I’m going to sleep in it.

“I’ve worn the same Lycra shorts for three days now and I don’t think they have been taken off once!

“Tomorrow, I somehow need to work out how to have a shower – find a river or something like that, go for a swim!”

Jamie ran the length of the islands, covering 430 kilometres, solo and unsupported, and is now visiting Adidas’ headquarters in Germany.

The former Belhaven Hill School and Musselburgh’s Loretto School pupil spent almost 18 months running constantly after setting off from Vancouver, Canada, in August 2014.

At the end of last year, he reached the finish line – after making his way through 14 countries and covering 18,000 kilometres – at the Argentinian capital of Buenos Aires.

On both fundraisers, he was raising money and awareness for Calm, which aims to raise awareness about, and prevent, male suicide.

Currently, suicide stands as the biggest single killer of men aged under 45 in the country.
