FIVE members of staff at Dunbar’s McDonald’s are getting ready to swap the restaurant for a series of challenging obstacles to raise money for charity.

Nadine Kittrick, Cameron Smith, Tiegan Divers, Brad Dorans and Robyn Allan will take to the start line of the Reebok Spartan Race on Saturday.

The five-kilometre course is packed with more than 20 obstacles – ranging from jumping over fire to crawling under barb wire, and from dragging a tyre to jumping a wall – with those who complete the course rewarded with a well-deserved beer.

Robyn, assistant manager at the restaurant, which opened last year, said she was both “nervous and excited” ahead of the event, which takes place near Penicuik. She said: “We are always looking for things to do to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“There is someone’s relative who does these Spartan Races and we thought it would be quite a good idea and decided to sign up for it.

“I’m a bit nervous and don’t know if I will complete it – I might collapse!”

Twenty-three-year-old Robyn was confident the team (pictured) would stick together to reach the finish line.

Already, the five members of staff have set themselves a target of raising more than £70 each, with a total of £350.

It is not the first time staff from the restaurant, off Spott Road, have taken on a fundraising challenge.

Early this year, Robyn, of Prestonpans, was one of four members of staff taking part in a ‘reverse jailbreak’, which saw the group blindfolded and left in an icy woodland 10 miles from the nearest town, with the challenge of making their way home with only £20 between them.
