A MEMORIAL rugby match is being planned for a county stalwart who died earlier this month.
Craig McGeary died suddenly, after suffering a suspected heart attack, on Tuesday, July 5.
He had been involved at Preston Lodge, Musselburgh and Haddington rugby clubs during a long playing and coaching career.
In tribute to the 43-year-old, who lived in Gullane with wife Gail, the Pennypit outfit are looking to hold a memorial match next month.
They are hoping to organise an over-35s match, with Mr McGeary’s former clubs invited to get involved.
Mark Howie, Preston Lodge RFC club captain, told the Courier the match would act as a curtain-raiser to the Jardine Cup match between PL and Grant Talac’s Musselburgh.
He said: “We would look to have it about noon so the guys who play can have a few beers and watch the game afterwards. We already have a referee from Musselburgh who has volunteered.”
It is hoped the memorial match would go ahead on Saturday, August 6.
