EAST Lothian is basking in soaring temperatures today - but there are thunderstorms just around the corner.

The mercury in parts of the county has passed 25 degrees centigrade in the shade as it enjoys the hottest day of the year so far.

As might be expected, North Berwick's beaches were packed as residents made the most of the glorious sunshine.

The sunshine is forecast to last all day, with temperatures not scheduled to drop below 20 degrees until after the sun sets - and even then, many of us may be in for an uncomfortable night, with temperatures expected to be around 19-20 degrees throughout.

But it's all change for tomorrow, with torrential rain forecast to hit the county during rush hour tomorrow morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow 'be aware' warning, saying thunderstorms could hit the county, with the possibility of flash flooding in some areas.

The Met Office said: "Frequent lightning, large hail and strong winds could be additional hazards. All of this could lead to some flooding of homes, businesses and transport networks."
