AN ANIMAL sedative which poses "a significant threat to someone's health if consumed" has been stolen from a county farm.

Police have issued a public safety warning after a significant quantity of the medication - which contains the drug ketamine - was stolen from a commercial premises.

The break-in happened sometime between 6pm on Friday and 8am this morning (Monday) at a farm situated between Tranent and Ormiston.

A three-figure sum of money was stolen along with two bottles of Narketan solution.

Anyone who may have come across this medication is strongly advised not to consume its contents but instead contact police immediately.

The medication is in clear liquid form and contained within separate 50ml bottles. Each bottle is made from clear glass and has a white label with a red lid.

The formulae is used as sedative for animals and can be extremely harmful if consumed by humans.

Inspector Andrew Harborow, who is based at Tranent Police Station, said: "Our inquiries into this matter are at an early stage and our investigation is very much ongoing.

"However, I urge anyone who comes across this medication to contact police immediately as it poses a significant threat to someone's health if consumed.

"Likewise, anyone who was in the area over the weekend and who remembers seeing any suspicious behaviour is asked to come forward."
