FURTHER strike dates have been announced that could leave the county without train services.

The county's rail services were badly affected as the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) held strikes this month.

Today (Monday) they announced further plans to strike on July 24 and 31.

That will leave county residents with only a reduced service between North Berwick and the Capital, while all trains on the Edinburgh to Dunbar line will be cancelled.

There will be no replacement bus services during the strikes.

Strike action is being taken as part of a dispute between RMT and ScotRail about driver-only trains.

RMT general secretary Mike Cash said the union had "no choice" but to hold more strikes because of a "disgraceful and cavalier approach to jobs and safety on Scotland's railways".

But Phil Verster, ScotRail managing director, branded the strike "totally needless" and said it was "only about who opens and closes doors on trains".
