A SPEEDBOAT and mountain of fridges are among some of the bizarre items dumped at the entrance to a countryside path on the outskirts of Tranent.

The flytipping incidents took place a short distance from Fa’side Castle, on the corner of the road towards Salters Road.

Walkers using the footpath which links the road to the B6414 said one morning they arrived to find five fridges dumped on top of one another.

One week later, the damaged speedboat had been dumped at the same spot.

East Lothian Council said it was amazed people would take the time to load such large items into a vehicle and drive to a rural spot to dump them rather than taking them to one of their waste and recycling sites.

And it said the county, as a whole, did not have a flytipping problem.

A spokesperson said: “As a county, we do not have a serious problem with flytipping when compared to other parts of the country.”

The fridges and speedboat were both dumped overnight at the corner of the unlit road.

One path user told the Courier that flytipping there was a regular issue.

He said: “It is fairly common to arrive at the entrance and find things have been dumped overnight.

“It’s been worse since the council changed its policy for commercial use of its own official dumps.”
