BEEKEEPER Bryden McKinnie was left in tears of laughter after coming home to find that a one-metre-high parcel had been left... under his doormat!

Bryden, from Port Seton, and his wife Louise had left their home to attend the Haddington Food Assembly, which he hosts each week, for a few hours when the courier arrived.

And when they came home they discovered the box, containing equipment for his beekeeping business Jacobite Apiaries, left on the doorstep, with the mat across the top.

Bryden, who also works alongside Louise as children's entertainer the Mighty Mac, could not resist taking photographs of the bizarre delivery and posting them on his social media channels.

He said: "The delivery driver was probably being cheeky and thought we might appreciate the joke. It certainly made us laugh a lot.

"It was so funny I immediately had to take pictures of it."

Bryden began beekeeping as a hobby several years ago and has built a business producing beeswax, running educational visits to see the bees in action and even producing batches of honey.

The equipment he received was ordered from specialist company Thorne, which said they used an outside courier service to deliver their items.

Rebecca Coleman, director at Thorne, said it was an unusual incident but they received odd requests all the time for deliveries.

She said: "Customers sometimes ask for parcels to be left in all sorts of places – yesterday we were asked to leave a parcel behind the fossil."

And she said while the Port Seton delivery had put a smile on faces, it was not their funniest.

She said: "This is not as funny as when the carrier told us they couldn’t leave the parcel at the requested prison delivery address because there was no one in!”
