DUNBAR'S RNLI volunteer crew were twice called out in the space of a few hours on Thursday.

First, Dunbar’s D class inshore lifeboat (ILB) Jimmy Miff was launched at 2pm to rescue a small fishing boat that was stranded without power a mile north east of Torness Power Station.

The volunteer crew towed the boat back to Dunbar Harbour and helped it to get assistance an hour after the alarm was raised.

Later that evening, Dunbar’s all weather lifeboat (ALB) was on exercise with the ILB at Bass Rock around 8pm when it was called to assist with the search for two missing kayakers near Pease Bay.

The ALB was joining Eyemouth RNLI volunteer crew, who had two boats conducting the search. However, all vessels were stood down when the kayakers turned up safe and well.

Dunbar RNLI coxswain Gary Fairbairn said the volunteer crew resumed the exercise once the emergency was over.

He said: “For a moment, training turned into the real thing but thankfully everyone was found safe.”
