A PRESTONPANS woman is facing a driving ban after admitting to knocking down a teenage boy in Tranent.

Wendy Townsley, of Preston Road, drove a car along the town’s High Street without due care and attention as she went through a red light and knocked the 15-year-old down as he crossed at a pedestrian crossing.

The youngster was not seriously injured but did require hospital attention for treatment to his injuries.

Townsley, 37, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday, where she pleaded guilty to three charges, including driving without due care and attention, driving while not holding a full licence or displaying L plates, and driving with no insurance.

Co-accused Andrew Gorrian, 58, denied two charges against him and he will return to court to stand trial on September 13.

Gorrian, also of Preston Road, is alleged to have driven the vehicle following the incident while having no full licence and no insurance.

Townsley will be sentenced on August 16 after admitting to driving without due care and attention, failing to maintain a proper lookout and failing to stop at a red light at a pedestrian crossing, colliding with a 15-year-old boy and causing him injury.

She also admitted driving the vehicle with only a provisional licence and failing to display L plates, and to driving with no valid insurance at High Street, Tranent, on February 10 this year.
