NORTH Berwick High School was in lockdown this morning after a telephone threat was received.

Police were called to the school after the call which came within the last hour.

Searches have been carried out and students are expected to leave at lunchtime as normal to start their weekends.

The incident comes just three days after Dunbar Grammar School went into lockdown following a similar threat

The school was one of a number of UK schools which received a telephone threat on their voicemail on Tuesday.

It is understood several calls were made again this morning to schools across the country.

East Lothian Council said this morning's incident saw the school following safety procedures and did not disrupt any exams which were being held.

A spokesperson said: "North Berwick High School contacted the police following a telephone threat and followed safety procedures and police advice.

"The school expects to close at its normal time today."
