COUNTY MSP Iain Gray has tabled a motion at the Scottish Parliament to congratulate Hibernian FC on their Scottish Cup success.

Mr Gray, a Hibs fan, tabled the motion on Monday after the Easter Road club claimed their first Scottish Cup in 114 years with a stoppage-time winner against Rangers at Hampden.

The motion reads: “That the Parliament congratulates Hibernian FC on winning the Scottish Cup for the first time since 1902 by defeating Rangers 3-2 in the final on May 21, 2016, at Hampden Park; congratulates both teams on an exciting and close-fought final; commends what it sees as the hard work, commitment and perseverance of the players and staff in delivering the historic victory and ending the 114-year wait to lift the cup again, and recognises the roles of the chief executive, Leeann Dempster, and manager, Alan Stubbs, in bringing this success to the club.”

The county MSP also took to social media, posting a picture of himself with Hibees skipper David Gray, who scored the 92nd-minute winner on Saturday.

He wrote on his Facebook page: “Apologies for a lack of Facebook updates over the weekend. I confess I was distracted by another lifelong passion, other than politics.”

His motion has been supported six times, including by Conservative Jeremy Balfour, who stood in Musselburgh before being elected as a Lothian list MSP.
