SUPERMARKET giant Sainsbury’s has applied for a provisional premises licence at its yet-to-be-built Haddington store.
Planning permission was given for a 3,700-square-metre store at Gateside West, on the outskirts of the town, more than three years ago.
However, progress on the scheme has been slow, with the supermarket chain unable to put a timescale on when the store would be built.
The application for a premises licence, which would see the store able to sell alcohol, will be discussed this afternoon (Thursday) in Haddington by East Lothian Licensing Board, which is made up of seven of the county’s councillors.
An operating plan, layout plan and planning certificate are also included in the documents before councillors.
A spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s said: “We had a premises licence and it has expired, which is why we have applied for a new one.
“This allows us to keep our options open while we review the development.”
