MORE than 200 people will join a walk in memory of two supporters of the Walk with Scott fundraisers who died suddenly within 10 days of each other earlier this year.

Ian Stevenson and Kenny Gray were both part of the family of ‘Scotters’ who joined Tranent comedian and charity veteran Scott Glynn as he held three mammoth walks, which raised a staggering £125,000 for 29 charities over the last three years.

The tight-knit group who walked with Scott became good friends and supporters, with a core team of nine walking every leg of every walk.

But they were dealt a sad blow when Ian died on New Year’s Day, followed by Kenny on January 11. Both men were 50 and suffered sudden heart attacks.

Now the group has arranged a fourth walk in memory of their two fellow walkers, along with their friends and family, who will take on the 20-mile challenge this weekend.

And they will be joined by Kenny’s best friend John Bathgate, who is determined to take part in at least one leg of the walk despite relying on portable oxygen.

One of the Scotters, Karen Kidd, said: “In memory of our two great friends we’ve put together the Walk with Scott Memory Walk. Friends and family of all ages and all abilities are taking part. Kenny’s best pal John Bathgate is on portable oxygen and is determined to do a good part of the walk – starting early so we all catch up and arrive together.

“True grit and determination – and totally humbling; I for one won’t be moaning about a sore blister when I think of what John is doing.”

The walk will start at Meadowmill and head to Longniddry, up to Macmerry, through to Pencaitland, Dalkeith and Musselburgh before heading back to Cockenzie, finishing in the Royal British Legion club.

Funds raised during the sponsored walk will go to Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland and Crohn’s Disease.
