A DECISION on whether Muirfield will accept female members is to be announced tomorrow (Thursday).
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, based at Muirfield, near Gullane, has undertaken a review of its membership since the Equality Act was introduced in 2010.
Over the last two years, club members have been consulted on whether to allow women to join the oldest recorded golf club in the world, founded in 1744.
The outcome of the members' ballot will be announced by Henry Fairweather, club captain, at Muirfield tomorrow morning.
Muirfield is a former Open Championship venue, most recently in 2013, but organisers The R&A has said the venue may not be used in future if it votes against allowing female members.
Similar consultations are also under way at Royal Troon, the venue for this year's Open Championship.
