AN EXTENSION to licensing hours to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday in June has been granted.

At a meeting of East Lothian Licensing Board in Haddington, it was agreed to extend on-sale licensing hours over June 10 and 11 to mark the Queen’s official birthday.

Pubs will be able to sell alcohol over the two days until 1am, as outlined by Councillor Jim Goodfellow, who chairs the board.

At the meeting, Mr Goodfellow said: “The board has determined that it is appropriate to grant a general extension of licensed hours for the Queen’s 90th birthday weekend.

“This extension will apply from Friday, June 10, to Saturday, June 11, and will allow an extension of the terminal hour for the sale of alcohol for that period until 1am.”

He also confirmed the extension  would apply to on-sale premises only, and does not apply to off-sales.

The Queen recently celebrated her 90th birthday, but an official birthday is also celebrated in June, which is marked by the ceremony of Trooping the Colour in London.
