TWO more refugee families have been welcomed into East Lothian as the county continues to support the victims of the Syrian crisis.

The new families arrived last Wednesday evening, with the help of East Lothian Welcomes Refugees and East Lothian Council, and are settling into their homes in Haddington.

At the weekend, they were introduced to the first families who arrived in the county in February and are living in the Musselburgh area.

All four families received welcome packages when they arrived in the county and were met at Edinburgh Airport by council support staff.

Youngsters from Macmerry Primary School made welcome cards for all the Syrian children arriving with their parents.

East Lothian Council has agreed to take in seven refugee families each year for the next five years as part of the Scottish effort to help those fleeing their war-torn homeland.

The families spend their first few days on arriving accessing medical services and finding out about their new community as well as the facilities available.

They receive ongoing support from the council and third sector agencies.
