PUPILS at Musselburgh Grammar School are honouring the memory of a popular teacher.

Brian Richardson, principal teacher of modern studies, died last October at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer.

Seniors organised a collection for Marie Curie’s annual Daffodil Appeal, raising £450. Pupils at the school proudly wore daffodil badges, highlighting the school motto ‘Caring for All.’ Pupils are also planning to erect a flagpole in his memory and host a flag ceremony wishing for peace in all countries of the world. This had been something Mr Richardson, a dad-of-two, was keen to organise before his illness prevented him.

Staff and senior pupil teams will be running the Edinburgh Marathon and Relay on Sunday, May 2. Mr Richardson was a keen volunteer at the finish line, regularly arranging pupils to hand out water or medal. He also run a marathon in his youth.

The school will be holding a blood drive for S6 pupils, staff and former pupils on May 26 by appointment only.

Mr Richardson benefited from many transfusions during his treatment and worked hard to raise the profile of donating blood.

Anyone interested in donating blood should contact Laura Anderson at Musselburgh Grammar School for an appointment.
