COMPUTER hackers have targeted the website of a county museum, taking it offline for nearly two weeks.

The website of the Coastal Communities Museum in North Berwick disappeared from the internet not long after the opening of the new exhibition on Good Friday, due to a malicious attack by a computer hacker.

Gordon Moodie, chairman of the Coastal Communities Museum, said: “I always thought that hackers would strike websites with something to hide, not a humble local museum.

“The timing of the hack could not have been worse.

“However, after extensive repairs to the system, we are back up and running as normal.

“I apologise for any difficulties anyone encountered accessing coastalmuseum.org recently.”
