SPORTING achievements over the last year were honoured last Friday evening when Tranent and District Community Sports Club held its annual Community Sports Awards ceremony.

Sports ranging from rugby to hockey, cricket and individual achievements were honoured on the night, with Lucas Reid, from Ross High Rugby Club, named Sportsperson of the Year, and a lifetime achievement award presented to footballing stalwart Ronnie Knox.

The awards ceremony, which was overseen by club vice-chairperson Scott Glynn, was held in Ross High Rugby Club and saw 11 awards handed over in total.

The winners were: School contribution to Junior Sport – Ross High School; Junior Volunteer of the Year – John Smith; Volunteer of the Year – Kevin Bathgate; Community Project or Event – Walk With Scott; Lifetime Achievement in Sport – Ronnie Knox; Coach of the Year – Alison Gordon and Donna Hill; Disability Sportsperson of the Year – Charlie Kay; Junior Sportsperson of the Year – Ryan Thomson; Sportsperson of the Year – Lucas Reid; Team of the Year – Tranent Cricket Club 1st XI; Community Club of the Year – Tranent and District Football Club.

Volunteer of the Year Kevin Bathgate said he was “humbled” to win.

Paul MacGregor, chairman of the club, said: “Another successful awards night for the club. So proud to be chair.”
