PLANS for about 120 homes on the edge of East Linton could be submitted to East Lothian Council next month.

Early proposals went on display in the village’s council chambers, on High Street, earlier this month.

More than 70 members of the public visited the four-hour exhibition, which was held by Holder Planning and Stewart Milne Homes.

The proposed site, to the west of the recently built Andrew Meikle Grove, would contain a mix of house styles, ranging from one to five bedrooms.

Allison Cosgrove, vice-chairwoman of the village’s community council, told the Courier there was an acceptance that development would likely take place in the village and the site at Orchardfield was well-connected to the village.

She added: “One thing which we liked the sound of was one and two-bedroom houses. There is a great need for smaller houses.”

But there were still questions about sustainable energy sources being used at the homes, such as solar panels.

The exhibition was made up of five display boards which showed that access to the planned site would come from Haddington Road, while the development would feature one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half storey housing to utilise the east-facing slopes and maximise views.

A spokeswoman for Stewart Milne Homes said: “The public consultation event was a success, with about 70 people attending throughout the day.

“Attendees raised a number of matters and made some useful suggestions.

“A pre-application meeting has been held with East Lothian Council with continued dialogue to discuss the proposals, and we hope to submit a full planning application in April.”
