A 70-year-old man has died at a farm near East Linton after a drainage ditch he had been working in collapsed.
Eight fire crews rushed to the scene at about 3.30pm after reports of a man trapped in a ditch, which had collapsed, at Old Waughton, to the north of the village.
But sadly, they were unable to save the man.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Local officers were called to a farm near East Linton shortly after 3.30pm on Friday following a report of concern for a man.
“Despite the best efforts of rescuers, the male unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and his next of kin have been informed.
“There are no suspicious circumstances at this time and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been made aware.
“A joint investigation between Police Scotland and HSE will be carried out in order to ascertain the full set of circumstances and, as with all sudden deaths, a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
