A KIND-HEARTED schoolgirl has said goodbye to her long locks to help children diagnosed with cancer.

Abbie Hay, 8, had her first haircut in more than three years last Friday afternoon to do her bit for the Little Princess Trust.

Her mum Liz told the Courier: “She wanted her hair cut anyway and I spoke to her about the charity.

“She was really eager once I explained what the charity was all about.

“Once she made her mind up, I did it through Facebook and we have had sponsorship of £390.”

The charity provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Abbie, who is in P4 at Gullane Primary School, had about ten inches of her hair cut off, leaving her with a new, stylish bob.

Liz, of Gullane’s Garleton Court, added: “Abbie is quite a girly girl and likes to look pretty and nice.

“I explained that the kids have cancer and don’t have their hair. She felt quite sorry for them.”
