A transgender singer from Musselburgh will appear as a contestant on BBC TV's The Voice on Saturday evening.

Jordan Gray (26), who moved to the Honest Toun from Essex with her mum Terri Olley last year, will perform the Bob Dylan classic 'Just Like A Woman.'

Jordan has been living as a woman for two years and is in the process of transitioning.

She began receiving hormone treatment this year.

She has enjoyed a singing career for the last ten years but performed as a male for the first eight.

East Lothian Courier:

Jordan said: "I can't believe I used to put on a suit and tie for my gigs."

Jordan came out publicly as transgender in 2014 after winning 'best original act' at an Essex singing competition.

Now, the first thing she tells her audiences is that she's transgender as, she said, she believes it is important that they don't think her appearance is part of her act.

"I'm a female, not a drag queen," she said.

Jordan receives a great reception when she performs but does sometimes encounter transphobia when she's out and about.

However she says since moving to Musselburgh she has found nothing but support.

Jordan told the 'Courier' that her mum Terri had accompanied her to The Voice live audition, recorded in London, and is looking forward to not only watching her daughter but possibly catching a glimpse of herself on TV when she watches the show with the "great friends" she has made since moving to Musselburgh, this weekend.

Jordan said that they came to live in East Lothian for a healthier lifestyle, with its clearer air and water.

She said: "There are so many beautiful things to look at in East Lothian."

And she thanked the Honest Toun for the support she has received since moving there.

She said: "It is not easy everywhere I go, but Musselburgh has been very friendly. They are good people and have nothing but good to say."

Jordan's audition before judges Will.i.am, Boy George, Paloma Faith and Ricky Wilson will be shown on Saturday night's show on BBC One from 7.15pm.
