A POPULAR county golf and health club closed last week, and its future remains uncertain.

Whitekirk Golf and Country Club closed last Wednesday, when guests were asked to leave and the power was turned off.

A notice on the club's Facebook page reads: "Due to circumstances outwith our control, it is with regret that we have to inform you that the facilities will be closed with immediate effect for what we hope is a short period.

"We will keep you informed of any progress and thank you for your support and patience."

Many members have responded through social media, while the Courier understands that some staff have not been paid since before Christmas.

A further comment on the Whitekirk Golf and Country Club Facebook page adds: "We have had some legal and power issues which we are hoping to have resolved over the coming days.

"Then an engineer will need to visit to sort the power. Direct debits will be taken this month as they have been processed already. These will be refunded following collection by way of compensation for the closure.

"There has been no email sent out as we do not have power and can't access the database of members contacts."

A meeting of directors is due to take place on Thursday, but the future of the popular leisure centre and golf club remains unclear.
