A GIFFORD man who has done “a huge amount” for the village has been presented with a top award.

John Wrinn, who was previously chairman of the village’s community council, received the Lawrence Beveridge Award at the Gifford Burns Supper last week.

The award is presented annually and recognises the hard work and dedication of residents who enhance the life of the village.

Each resident of the village has the chance to cast their vote on who they feel is most deserving of the award, which was named in memory of Lawrence Beveridge, who was heavily involved in setting up the Gifford Community Association.

Mr Wrinn, 53, told the Courier: “It is quite humbling to receive the award.

“I’m conscious there have been some people in the village who have made some enormous contributions. I’m delighted to be counted alongside them.”

Joe Clark, chairman of Gifford Community Association, led the praise for Mr Wrinn, of the village’s Tweeddale Avenue.

He said: “He has done a huge amount of work with all sorts of groups in the village.

“He is very hard working with it but does all the work with a certain charm that persuades people to join in and come along with him and support him.

“He was on the community council, which he chaired for some time, and he is also on the Gifford Community Association, which runs the village hall. He was hugely instrumental in major refurbishment of the hall over the last two or three years.”
