A STALWART of Dunbar High Street has locked the doors to her Chinese restaurant for the last time.

Suisie Kan has been serving up specialities for more than three decades but handed over the keys to King’s Palace to its new owners last Saturday.

Suisie admitted it was an emotional occasion as she shut the restaurant and takeaway for the last time.

She said: “It was emotional finishing up for the last time.

“I will just be taking it easy and spending more time with my family now.

“Thank you to all the customers.”

Suisie moved to the town from Edinburgh after she completed a college course.

She told the Courier: “When I came to Dunbar at that time they were working on the power station [Torness].

“I knew it was going to make a good business with all the workers and all the contractors from the power station.”

And she was proven right, with the business proving a staple of High Street for 33 years.

Steven Hill, from Dunbar Trades’ Association, said: “Suisie has been an integral part of the high street for a long time.

“Everybody knows her and she is a bright and happy person and it is sad to see her go.”
