INVESTIGATIONS are under way after a house was broken into overnight on Sunday.

The break-in took place between 6.30pm on Sunday and 6.30am the following day on Haddington's Gateside Road.

Entry was forced to the rear of the property and a number of household fixtures and fittings were stolen.

PC Chris Smith, of Haddington, said: "We suspect, due to the quantity and weight of the items stolen, that a large vehicle must have been involved.

"We're urging anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour by persons or a vehicle in the area around this time to come forward.

"I'd also like to remind people to be wary if they are offered household goods or fixtures for which the seller cannot provide proof of ownership.

"If you purchase stolen items, knowingly or otherwise, they can be returned to their original owners meaning a financial loss for yourself."
