WINDS up to 80mph are expected to hit East Lothian this afternoon and this evening (Monday) as Storm Henry batters the country, the Met Office has warned.

Although a yellow 'be aware' warning for East Lothian is already in place for the period from this morning through to Tuesday, a more serious amber 'be prepare' warning has now been issued for the county, covering the period from 3pm today to 9am on Tuesday.

Some very strong west to southwesterly winds are expected to develop, with of 70-80 mph expected widely.

The winds will ease during Tuesday morning, but will still be very strong in places for the morning rush hour.

"Be prepared for some potentially severe conditions, causing transport disruption, some structural damage, difficult driving conditions and disruption to power supplies," say the Met Office.

The weather warning follows several others from Friday and Saturday as Storm Gertrude hit the country.
