THREE lucky youngsters will switch on Dunbar’s Christmas lights later this month.

On November 29, entertainment from fire jugglers and Highland dancers on High Street will mark the lights switch-on, with a visit from Father Christmas.

Youngsters from nursery and the two Dunbar Primary School campuses are creating their own special artwork.

The three winners are chosen tomorrow (Friday) and have the honour of switching on the Christmas lights.

Maree Douglas, from the Dunbar Christmas lights committee, said: “They have basically got to come up with a slogan, picture or painting that captures the spirit of Christmas as they see it.

“We are hoping it is going to be a really big draw for the kids."

A Christmas market is being held on High Street from 2pm to 7pm on the day, with the lights switched on by the youngsters at 6pm.

Live music will be provided by the Dunbar Buskers, The Monkton Hall Brass Band and Dunbar Pipe Band.

East Coast FM will also be on the street, with Pa De Bas also there, along with the Dunbar Highland Dancers and Devers Academy of Dance. Dunbar Lyric Group will also be on hand in full costume as they deliver a couple of songs from their forthcoming production of The Addams Family.

The Dunbar Film Society will be projecting Christmas cards designed by local schoolchildren onto historic High Street buildings after dark, a first for the lights.

Finally, Cafe 1650 has made a Christmas cookie, with a percentage of every sale going into the Christmas lights fund for next year, while Belhaven Bikes has donated a scooter to be raffled off at Santa’s Grotto at the Old Bakery on High Street. Mrs Douglas said that it was going to be “a busy and exciting” day and encouraged as many people as possible to turn out and take part in the fun.
