A NEW report highlighting how East Lothian Council is performing as a social landlord has been released.

The report, which was released last month, shows how the local authority is performing against other similar-sized local authorities in Scotland and average figures from across the country.

Councillor Norman Hampshire, the local authority’s spokesman for housing and the environment, said: “This is our second landlord’s report and it is a clear demonstration that we take our tenants’ views seriously and use them to help us to continue to improve our services.

"Feedback shows us that tenants value our services highly, but there is always room to do better.

“I’d like to thank people who have given their individual views over the year and also East Lothian Tenants and Residents Panel (ELTRP), who have played an active role in helping to pull this report together and who have stimulated and supported tenant participation in the county for a number of years."

He added: “We want to be the best landlord that we can be and tenant participation is really important in helping to make this happen.”

Highlights in the report note that the council delivered 61 new build properties, while acquiring 20 properties through the open market.

Mark Ormiston, chairman of ELTRP, believed the report was crucial and said: “It’s important tenants have the opportunity to hold their landlord to account and be involved in assessing their performance. Tenants should read the report and provide feedback.”
