Tranent's Caitlyn Vanbeck has bowed out of X Factor - without her army of East Lothian fans getting the chance to hear her sing on the ITV show.

The 17-year-old former Ross High pupil had been the sole Scot left in the competition as she made it through to the last 16 of the girls' category.

But to the disbelief of her fans, she was given no airtime on Sunday evening's ITV programme - despite it being dedicated to the girls.

Tweeting as the two-hour show came to an end, Caitlyn confirmed she was one of two girls whose live stage performances were dropped from the broadcast.

Caitlyn said: “Unfortunately @JasmineLeigh93 and I weren't shown tonight...but I am so grateful for the opportunity and I'm supporting the girls.”

Sixteen girls fought for a place in the category's final six and had to impress judge Rita Ora, who has been given their category to mentor.

But only 14 performances were shown as the tense competition went on.

Caitlyn, who is studying primary education at Edinburgh University, has said it has been a dream come true to be involved in the talent show.

She told the Courier last week: "It's been crazy, everything has just taken off in the last week or so and my phone has never stopped.

And the 17-year-old admitted it was "quite daunting" being the only Scot left in the competition.

Her supporters took to Twitter to congratulate her for making it so far in the hit show - and voice their disappointment at her talent not being shown to viewers.

Said Oliver Dunn: "How on earth you were not on TV tonight is a massive mistake by the producers!! Your a star please come back next year!!! X."

While fellow singer Josh Brennan added: "Well done @caitlynvanbeckx Still proud."

And @tellymix tweeted: "Not sure what @caitlynvanbeckx did to end up being cut out of the ENTIRE series!"

The maths department at her former school, Ross High, spoke for many in the county when they tweeted: "Forever our superstar though! Here's to the future."

Caitlyn then later tweeted: "I'm totally overwhelmed by all of your messages and comments. Thank you so much."
