MORE than 300 people have demonstrated pedal power to raise money for Poppyscotland.

People from throughout the county and beyond started off at Prestonpans Community Centre last Sunday morning.

They could then choose either a 45-mile or 70-mile route, which took cyclists along the coast to North Berwick before heading into the countryside and through Gifford, Pencaitland and Tranent before returning to Prestonpans.

East Lothian Sportive was introduced last year to raise funds for Scotland's Armed Forces community.

Marianne Craig, events fundraiser, was pleased to say they had built on last year's success.

She said: “The sportive has been extremely popular with all places filled.

“We extend a huge thank you to everyone who took part – as well as getting through the physical challenge they are helping to make a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable members of Scotland’s Armed Forces community.”

Thanks to support from Fred Olsen Renewables, each participant’s full registration fee of £35 and additional sponsorship money will be used by Poppyscotland to provide a range of practical support to those who have served, those still serving, and their families.
