Police are appealing for witnesses following a suspicious fire in a close in Dunbar.

The incident happened at about 2.45am yesterday (Wednesday) on West Port when a wheelie bin was set on fire in a common stair.

Police are considering whether this incident is linked to other deliberate fires around the same time in East Lothian.

A charity clothing bin was set on fire at the swimming pool in Dunbar and bales of hay were set alight at East Linton.

Police are now urging anyone who can help them with their inquiries to please get in touch.

Detective Inspector Stevie Bertram said: "Luckily no one was hurt in these incidents but deliberate fire-raising is an extremely dangerous crime and one we take very seriously.

"Anyone who can assist us in trace those responsible is asked to contact us on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
