A HOMEOWNER was woken during the night by the sound of their bedroom door being opened and a torch being shone in their face.
The frightening incident took place at a house on Dunbar Road, Haddington, on August 21.
Police noted male voices were heard and footsteps heard running from the house.
Inspector Andy Harborow said: “We are continuing with our inquiries into a break-in, which occurred around 1.20am on August 21 at an address in Dunbar Road, Haddington.
“It is believed the suspects were disturbed by the homeowner and made off from the premises empty-handed.
“Anyone with information that can assist with our investigation is asked to come forward.”
Details about the incident were passed on to the town's community council last week.
Speaking to the Courier, Jan Wilson, chairwoman of the group, said she had encountered something similar several years ago.
She added: “You don't feel comfortable in your home.
“Before, we used to keep out window open to let fresh air in but stopped doing that.”
Information can be passed to the police on 101.
