The secret’s in the smash.

Bringing a slice of New York’s edgy meatpacking district to Glasgow, one of the fastest growing restaurant concepts in the US, Smashburger, has opened its first restaurant in Scotland on bustling Sauchiehall Street.

Producing an exceptional burger that is already a stateside hit, Smashburger has taken the often predictable fast food staple and turned it into an explosive must-try. With over 370 locations across 10 countries, this cutting-edge approach has been a success since day one.

Their famous juicy patties only use fully traceable 100 per cent British Red Tractor grain-fed beef, sourced from an award-winning family butcher. The unique smashing method means the burgers are handcrafted into a meatball, smashed, seared and seasoned on a hot buttered grill to seal in all the juices for an irresistibly juicy burger in every bite. Always made to order and never frozen, Smashburger will only use the very best of ingredients with a focus on supporting the community and using local produce wherever possible.

Developed in 2007 by founder Tom Ryan, the original smashburgers include the Classic Smash, BBQ Bacon Cheddar, Truffle Mushroom Swiss and Bacon Cheeseburger, heralding from the founding location in Denver, USA. Other choices include the Spicy Jalapeño Baja with guacamole, Monterey Jack, lettuce, tomato, onion and chipotle mayo on a spicy chipotle bun and the Spinach, Cucumber & Goats Cheese with tomato, onion and balsamic dressing on a multi-grain bun. Alternatively, customise your own with a vast array of ingredients including a choice of cheeses, delicious toppings and artisan buns – a bespoke burger as you like it.

THE HAGGIS BURGER – EXCLUSIVE TO GLASGOW

Whilst Smasburger heralds from the US, staying to true to its ethos of sourcing locally, Smashburger asked the people of Scotland to help them build a brand new and exclusive ‘Local Smash’ burger to feature on the menu. The response was outstanding and the Tagais (haggis in Scottish Gaelic) Stack was born. As Scottish as the bagpipes, the Tagais Stack features your choice of chicken or beef patty topped with the finest haggis, cheddar cheese, fried egg, bacon and barbecue sauce in a soft and fluffy brioche bun.

MORE THAN JUST BURGERS

It’s not just about the world-famous patties though at Smashburger. The menu, with impeccably sourced ingredients at its heart, also features choices such as juicy grilled or crispy chicken breast sandwiches like the Avocado Club with fresh avocado, applewood smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, ranch dressing and mayo. Vegetarians can opt for an Avocado Ranch Portobello mushroom burger or Sweet Butternut and Chickpea burger and, for the more virtuous, there’s a selection of super-fresh salads, including a Classic Cobb. Tempting sides include garlic and rosemary Smash fries, crunchy veggie frites, haystack onions and fried pickles.

What’s more, a constant commitment to innovation is at the heart of Smashburger’s ethos with special burger creations featured on rotation such as the famous ‘Triple Double’ (two layers of juicy beef and three layers of melted cheese, all wrapped up in an artisan bun).

THIRSTY WORK

Deluxe burgers deserve the best drinks offering and Smashburger’s liquid libations do not disappoint. A list of carefully curated local craft beers and ciders sits alongside prosecco and a selection of red, white and rose wines.

Anyone looking for sparkling zero-proofs will be spoilt for choice at the free-style touch-screen soda fountain, providing over 100 different combinations of fizzy favourites including Coca Cola, Fanta, Dr. Pepper, Sprite and Powerade. And, for a truly indulgent mix, handspun shakes are made with Haagen Dazs ice cream in fabulous flavours including chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and Oreo.
