Hawick hoodoo for NB
Hawick ‘Quins 21 v 11 North Berwick
NORTH BERWICK have now lost to both Hawick sides in East Division 1 this season - their only league defeats so far.
There was controversy after 15 minutes when North Berwick"s David Thorburn was injured in an unprovoked clash.
Thorburn left the field with a suspected cheek fracture and the referee showed the Quins forward a yellow card. Grant Spence kicked the resulting penalty.
Five minutes later, the home side broke from inside their own half. Their winger slipped a couple of tackles and sprinted under the posts for a converted try.
Back came North Berwick, and after a number of penalties for killing the ball, Spence kicked one to reduce the gap.
But from a lost line out on the 22, the home stand-off went on a mazy run and scored close to the posts for another converted try.
Worse was to follow for North Berwick just before half time. A long kick was fielded by Littlefair, who tried to open up the game.
He was dispossessed and another converted try made the half-time score 21-6 to the home side.
Chris Lekkas and debutant Neil Macgregor came on for North Berwick.
Although line-out possession remained a problem , the visitors worked hard to reduce the deficit.
Iain Dove was outstanding with his driving play and seemed to inspire those around him.
Jamie Armstrong also put in a tireless performance as he tried to swing the match back NB"s way.
From a number of rucks on the Quins line, a gap eventually appeared, and he scored in the left corner.
