Girls aloud and proud
North Berwick High School under-18 girls’ rugby team finished their first season on a high when they reached the national sevens final at Murrayfield last weekend.
Over half of all the girls teams in Scotland were competing and North Berwick High beat Crieff and Ayr High Schools in their pool games.
They defeated Crieff again in the quarter-finals and won a thrilling semi-final 36-30 in extra-time with a sudden death try against Aboyne Academy. However, a well-drilled performance by Murrayfield Wanderers was too much for the North Berwick girls.
They played their first match together in December last year and are proud to finished second in their first-ever sevens tournament.
The bar has been set high for next season and there are already plans to set up an under-15 team in addition to the under-18 squad.
