Sean’s Scots call-up
PRESTON ATHLETIC midfield star Sean McAuley will represent Scotland in the semi-professional home international championships to be held in North Wales next week.
The tournament will have a different look to it this year as Gibraltar will compete for the first time, taking the place of Ireland who have withdrawn.
Preston boss Stevie Myatt paid tribute to his vice-captain on his international call-up. He said: “Sean is finishing his third season with us since returning from East Stirling where I think he played for five years
“He has played 87 times and scored 11 goals for us since he returned.
“In his first season back he was selected for the semi-pro squad, but was limited to a couple of late substitute appearances and I know that he is looking forward to playing more of a part this term.
“He is vice-captain at the club and at 28-years -old is a great influence on the other players at Preston.
“In my opinion he is one of the top three midfielders in East of Scotland football.
“He is an energetic midfielder who has a fantastic work ethic, and, most of all, he is a winner.”
