Burgh rugby boys win PL minis title
MUSSELBURGH’s primary seven rugby side lifted the title at the Preston Lodge mini rugby tournament held at the Pennypit last Sunday.
The P7 competition served up some excellent rugby with the boys and girls demonstrating that they have mastered the core skills required to play the game at a high standard. Although Musselburgh were the eventual winners Haddington finished a close second.
More than 350 children took part in Saturday’s tournament. The weather stayed dry and the kids on show served up some fantastic rugby.
The P3 competition was of an excellent standard with teams from Preston Lodge, Watsonians and North Berwick all having a number of good wins.
The outcome of the P4 competition was a tight affair, which was not decided until the last round of matches. But it was Watsonians that came out on top, with Portobello as runners-up.
North Berwick won the P5 competition and they will no doubt have a number of players who will be stars of the future.
The games in the P6 age group were closer, with all the teams in contention. However, it came down to a deciding game between Portobello and Watsonians, with Portobello coming out on top.
Even P1 and P2 children were involved and players from Preston Lodge, Musselburgh and North Berwick enjoyed a series of fun games before getting stuck into their food bag and being presented with their well earned medals.
A great day came to an end with Preston Lodge club development officer Andrew Clark presenting the medals and trophies.
