Haddington double win over West Lothian sides
Pumperston 2 v 5 Haddington Athletic, Blackburn United 0 v 3 Haddington Athletic
Two trips to West Lothian last week yielded maximum points for Haddington, who remain in contention for the South Division title.
The Hi Hi went ahead after just one minute against Pumpherston last Wednesday evening. Kevin Bowmaker providing the finishing touch after a fine through ball from Tomasz Wojcik. Pumpherston hit back on seven minutes, Sean Martin the scorer with a misjudged cross which crept in just inside the back post.
Haddington’s lead was restored on 25 minutes, skipper Michael Motion scoring with a composed finish. Scott Gibson made it 3-1 before the half hour, stabbing home the rebound after Bowmaker’s header came back off the bar.
In the second half, a contentious handball decision gave Pumpherston a penalty kick on 59 minutes which Martin converted.
The crucial fourth goal came with fourteen minutes left, Motion finding the net for the second time after meeting Scott Gilmour’s cross from the left. Derek Slight claimed the fifth goal near the final whistle.
Davie Anderson put Haddington in front after 16 minutes at Blackburn on Saturday.
The Hi Hi struggled to find form after the restart and the result remained in the balance for most of the second period.
There was therefore much relief when substitute Kevin Bowmaker made it 2-0 with 11 minutes left.
As the final whistle approached, Bowmaker then turned provider and Anderson tucked away his low cross for a third.
