Musselburgh Athletic 5 v 1 Dundee North End

Musselburgh began well and never let the tempo drop throughout an impressive first half.

The only surprise was that it took the home side until the 35th minute to open the scoring. Chris King getting 23rd goal of the season when he volleyed home superbly after Scott Devlin crossed from the right.

It was all Musselburgh after this. Five minutes from the break, Paul Currie added a second goal, slotting home from a tight angle after driving through the North End defence.

Shortly before the half-time whistle CJ Osazuwa gave his team a three goal cushion when he got his head on to the end of a Chris King’s cross, and the game already looked over as a contest.

Three minutes into the second half, a Burgh goal scored a fourth. Mathu King and CJ Osazuwa linked up superbly in the build up, before King turned and struck a brilliant shot into the top corner.

The pressure dropped after this, and the visitors scored a consolation goal when O’Connor pounced on the rebound after Ronnie McPherson had parried a penalty kick.

The home midfield continued to perform well, but with the game won, there wasn’t as much activity around the opposition goal.

CJ Osazuwa did add a fifth goal near the end, after Currie saw his shot saved before heading the loose ball into the giant striker’s path.

Although Musselburgh’s season has often been one of terrific football and exciting games, it has been marred at times by a poor disciplinary record that reared its ugly head again in this match.

Martin Murphy walked near the end after a confrontation involving two opponents, and Chris King too was dismissed for a second booking.
