Dunbar United 0 v 5 Bathgate Thistle

A DUNBAR squad missing five players went into this Fife & Lothians Cup quarter-final as underdogs against the Scottish Junior Cup finalists.

The home side held their own in the first half and might have reached the interval on level terms, but Bathgate took the lead on 42 minutes. Graeme Nisbet was judged to have fouled Bannerman on the edge of the box and from the free kick ex-Tranent striker Johnny Harvey found the top corner.

Within a minute of the restart, McGrillen could have doubled the visitors’ lead but headed straight at MacLean.

Colin McDonald lobbed the ball just over the bar shortly afterwards, but that was to prove Dunbar’s last chance to equalise.

Nisbet collected a second booking for dissent on 51 minutes to reduce the Seasiders to ten men.

Dunbar held out until the 64th minute when McGrillen made it 2-0, and within five minutes Bathgate added to their lead with ex-Dunbar favourite Kevin Haynes on the scoresheet.

McGrillen scored his second on 68 minutes, then Haynes headed in an easy fifth six minutes from time when MacLean didn’t deal with a cross.
