Leith Athletic Colts 0 v 2 Seton Boys Club

Goals from Calum McClure and Andrew Cranston gave Seton Boys Club under-14s the edge over their Edinburgh rival in a closely fought David Innes Cup final at Saughton Enclosure last Wednesday.

The county side emerged 2-0 winners with both goals coming in the first half.

The commanding Seton backline of David Lamond, Dean Riddell and Thomas Stevenson were skillful as well as strong.

Leith’s best chance in the second half was when Michael Downie managed to wriggle his way past his marker on the left wing.

He squared the ball across the edge of the box where it was helped onwards by Lewis Smith to Andrew Keighren. But his shot flew past the right hand post.

Frustrated at his side’s inability to trouble Seton goalkeeper Joshua McFarlane, Thomas Lyall resorted to a hat-trick of shots from outside the box.

All went close. But not enough to trouble McFarlane too much, who continued to have a comfortable evening.

Seton continued to soak up the Leith pressure and the county side were cleverly starting to open up the Edinburgh team up on the break.

They played neat football along the ground from the back via the midfield, but with speed and accuracy that was exposing the increasingly over-committed Leith side.

A chance came in the 56th minute when the ball was quickly played into the centre to Fraser Johnston.

As he strode forward, space opened up before him. He let fly with a great shot, but Leith keeper Ross Wood was equal to it.

Seton might even have added a third with six minutes to go. Robbie McLeod found himself at the end of a great move and his shot cameback off the post.
