Rosie’s swim record

Dunbar Grammar pupil Rosie Hood swam into the record books at the GB Olympic trials held in Sheffield earlier this month.

The 17-year-old broke the Scottish age group long course record in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1 minute 5.26 seconds. She took the record from sometime training partner and European record holder in the individual medley, Hannah Miley.

Hood also achieved three personal bests, two Commonwealth Games youth qualifying times and raced into a “B” final against the some of the best competitors in Great Britain.

With World, European and British records falling daily, she gained invaluable experience at the trials.

After the trials, Hood only had a few days rest at home, before she was off to the Scottish National Open Age Groups Championships in Glasgow.

Competing in the 16 to 18-years age group, she was again on top form, winning three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Hood said afterwards: “These two events were great experiences fo me.

“I would like to thank the Buccleuch Group for their support.”
