Windsor make final
MUSSELBURGH Windsor narrowly defeated county rivals Newcraighall Vics 4-3 to win a place in the final of the Lothian Buses Cup on Sunday.
The Honest Toun side bounced back from the disappointment of losing the final of the Stuart Brien Cup to Leith Athletic last week.
Despite having a diminished squad of 12, Musselburgh Windsor started the brighter and centre forward Robert MacFarlane headed home from a corner to put them one up.
Shortly after Newcraighall broke clear of the Windsor defence but the attacker was brought down by stand-in keeper Kamran Tufail who failed to save the penalty which sneaked in at the post.
Windsor then took the lead for the second time, through Jordon Burrows with a sweetly struck shot from outside the box. However the hard working Newcraighall team retaliated when the same striker broke through and tucked the ball away into the bottom corner leaving the sides all square at 2-2 at half-time.
Midway through the second half, disaster stuck for Windsor, Tufail’s clearance went straight to a Vics foward who smashed the ball high into the net.
Windor came into their own soon when Martin Innes played a great ball across the six yard line for Craig Turnbull to stroke home at the back post.
Shortly after Robert MacFarlane scored a contender for goal of the season.
Collecting the ball on the corner of the penalty box, he turned and smashed a rocket into the corner.
In the final Windsor have a chance to gain revenge over Leith Athletic.
