THREE county rugby clubs are gearing up for massive home matches tomorrow (Saturday).

Haddington will face Jedforest at Neilson Park in a SHE Cup quarter-final tie.

Preston Lodge also have a quarter-final in the SHE Bowl, where they will take on Loch Lomondside at the Pennypit.

It’s league business for Musselburgh tomorrow as they fight for Premiership Division Two survival against Hillhead/Jordanhill at Stoneyhill.

It will be a double treat for Haddington rugby fans as the quarter-final against Jed is followed by the club’s annual sevens tournament.

Scarlets’ vice-president Peter Brownlee agreed that organising both events on the one day has been a big challenge for the club.

He said: “The logistics of arranging both on the one day, before anyone sets foot on the park has been complicated.

“A lot of credit has to go to team manager Richard Scott for all the work he has put in to make this happen.”

Brownlee said that it would be ideal for the club to do well in both competitions.

“But if I had to make a choice between making the semi-finals or winning the sevens,” he added.

“I would obviously pick winning the cup game.

“This is as far as we have come in the cup and it would be fantastic to be just one game from Murrayfied.

“But we always take our sevens seriously and I am sure that coach Eddie Pollock will be keen to do well in that as well.”

Preston Lodge also have one eye on the national stadium and, in Loch Lomondside, they are playing against a side that is an unknown quantity to them.

PL committee member Johnston Craig explained: “They are a fairly new club that only started up in 1996 and play in the Western District League.

“We have never played them before and don’t know that much about them.

“But this is a massive match for us and we are sure, with the right conditions, it will be a entertaining game.”

Burgh president John McGhee said that he would prefer that the club was not fighting to avoid relegation on the last day.

He added: “Obviously, it is not an ideal position to be in. But we just have to deal with it.

“Our fate is in our own hands. We are at home and, if we win, we stay up. So it is up to us to do just that.”
