Burgh teeter above drop zone after win
Hamilton 14 v 15 Musselburgh
DESPITE scoring a late try to secure a win last Saturday, Musselburgh will have to do it all again this weekend to ensure survival in Premier Division Two.
The visitors took the lead in the ninth minute from a lineout. Slaven took possession and set up a drive. Easton then fed Leitch who set up Cook.
The big centre went on a superb run and returned a pass to Leitch who crossed the line for Walls to convert.
From a Burgh throw, Talac and Porteous put on a drive. Boyer of Hamilton plundered ball and made 90 metres.
The referee then awarded a penalty try after 15 minutes for a high tackle that took place two metres from the line. Strydom slotted the conversion to make the score 7–7.
Hamilton struck an offside penalty to touch in the Burgh 22 as Ross replaced Leitch at fly-half for the visitors.
Morrison stole the home throw and won a penalty as Hamilton piled on the pressure.
In the 25th minute, Monaghan and Cook went on a counter-attack but Hamilton cleared.
Burgh won a penalty on the half-hour mark and home number nine Strydom was given a yellow card.
Walls made sure with the penalty to put the visitors in front 10-7 at half-time.
The knock-on was becoming a feature of the game as the ball became more slippy in the incessant rain.
The Hamilton forwards put the visitors under pressure and Karalus touched down for a converted try that put the home side four points in front.
It was then the Burgh half-backs turn to test the Hamilton defence.
The visitors began to pour forward in the last 10 minutes, desperate to score the try that would not only save the game, but their position in Premier Division Two.
From a scrum Easton and Monaghan probed. The ball was fed to Talac, who with Slaven led a drive.
The pressure took its toll on the home side. Despite having a scrum five metres from their line, Hamilton lost possession with a poor kick to touch.
The Burgh forwards took advantage and put on a drive that ended in Sutherland touching down to edge the visitors ahead 15-14.
Although Hamilton pressed forward, they never really threatened the visitors’ defence.
